Brazil: A Country of Contrasts
Natural curiosity motivates me to find unique experiences when I travel. My interest in the variety each country offers is worth the many hours in flight to reach that final destination. Brazil called my name many times, and it did not disappoint. As the largest country in South America, Brazil ignited my senses and offered unparalleled, non-stop adventure.
In large cities, like Sao Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, and Porto Alegre, cars dart quickly in and out of the constant buzz of non-stop traffic. Sunbathers create congestion on miles of white sand beaches. And the dense Amazon jungle is an excursion, not for the faint of heart. For serenity, I love to fly down south to Bento Goncalves, the wine capital of Brazil, with the famous Vale dos Vinhedos (Valley of the Vineyards).
A SMILE IS CONTAGIOUS
I started planning my wardrobe as soon as I have scheduled the multiple-stops along my journey. A must is a mix of "to be seen" colorful wardrobe pieces for the captivating and fashionable city neighborhoods. After all, some of the world's most glamourous models hail from Brazil, strutting their styles even on the most casual outing. I also include gear for brisk country hikes. The weather can be hot and humid to chilly in Brazil, depending on the region.
Even though I don't speak fluent Portuguese, with lots of shared smiles and my innate sense of humor, I can communicate easily with Brazil’s people. The citizens have exuberant energy and greet everyone with a welcoming attitude.
A FOODIE'S PARADISE
I love savoring Brazil's multitude of juicy grilled meats, Pao de Queijo cheese bread, fresh blended veggie/fruit smoothies, amazing desserts, and strong mountain-grown coffee. Don't expect to relish these choices if you are considering calorie counting!
Domestic beverages complement the local cuisine, from regional wines to Brazil's national drink, the Caipirinha Cocktail, made from the native liquor cachaca.
NOTE TO SELF: To indulge and appreciate every morsel, I know I have to walk extra miles each day!
STREET CULTURE
Graffiti shows up everywhere providing daily artistic expression, from run-down favelas to high-rise residential buildings where people reflect their social outlook. I especially love wandering around in the Vila Madalena/Batman Cave neighborhood in Sao Paulo, which showcases vibrantly painted murals by local multi-talented artists.
Colorful painted murals cover walls, stairs and even sidewalks throughout Sao Paulo.
BEST REASONS FOR MAKING THE EFFORT TO VISIT BRAZIL
The people, climate, old world to modern architecture, fashion, arts, music, topography, constant stimulation, and spontaneous vibrancy make Brazil what it truly is - a country of beautiful contrasts! It is easy for me to imagine myself in a home I would design there, tucked away in a small town, immersing myself in a continually stimulating lifestyle.
